2008 – An era of remakes of Kollywood
There weren’t much hits in the very beginning of 2008. May be, we feel there isn’t any needs to mention the reasons for the best illustrations would be Pongal releases. The expected movies dashed our hopes and in vice-versa few films that didn’t have expectations have surprised us. Be it of action genres Bheema and Kaalai was an abrupt failure at the box-office and Anjathey releasing in the second month has churned, topping the box-office chart. Fine! Let’s not get worried, for the countdown for remakes are ready to kick-start with few to hit the screens and others to floors.
1. Yaaradi Nee Mohini – Selvaraghavan delivered untypical genre of his usual stuff. In Telugu titled Aadavari Mathaladu Arthale Vaeru, the film happened to be the greatest of blockbuster in Tollywood of the last year. His assistant A. Jawahar now remakes the entertaining flick in Tamil with Dhanush and Nayanthara in the lead roles. Does Selvaraghavan has got something to do here? Of course, maker of original version handles the story and screenplay.
2. Kuselan – One movie you will never feel tired watching of is recently released Malayalam movie ‘Kathaparayumpol’ starring Mammooty and Srinivasan in lead roles. Wow! Superstar Rajnikanth had tears dripping down his cheeks and felt of taking up the remake task directed by P. Vasu. For 2006, duo combos of Rajnikanth-P.Vasu worked out the magic at box-office with Chandramukhi- remake of Malayalam movie ‘Manachitrathaazh’. Well, Kuselan too is a remake. Pasupathy performs the role of a barber and that was played by Srinivasan in the original version.
These are the movies that have been confirmed and are on close heels of getting near you. But, we have something that you would have never heard about.
A. Jab we met – Shahid Kapoor- Kareena Kapoor starrer Jab we Met clicked the best part in the box-office of Bollywood with the genre of romance-comedy. Moser Baer releasing the DVD of this movie has raised the curiosities of not just the producers of Kollywood, but its surrounding regions too. Now, it has been confirmed that this Hindi feature will be soon remade in Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu and Kannada. In Tamil, you have Dhanush and Trisha sharing the screen in lead roles.
B. Namastey London – A film that fleeted Bollywood star Akshay Kumar to a greater part in stardom. Produced by ADLABS, Namastey London took hold of first position among top 10 Best of Bollywood movies for the year 2007. Madhavan has been roped into play the lead role and GV Films are on the talks of getting remake rights from ADLABS.
C. Darling – One more horror flick in the career of Ram Gopal Varma had nothing great for him. This had an average collection in box-office and remember there isn’t much to say anything impressive about the movie. But somehow, few directors and producers have felt this would get clicked here in Kollywood. And again, Madhavan is the first option set in the minds of both director and producer.
So, there’s gonna be a great fiesta of remake entertainment for the audiences. Most of the films over here have been a top-grosser in the market and some have failed to do so. But you can’t say things would be same when remade. It’s like a batsman hitting six and getting out in the very next ball by the same bowler. Does this comparison more complicated? Then, don’t worry. I have something to say in it simple terms “Wait and see for the result and don’t decide without these things”.
