Are Arjun, Ajith, Mohan Lal & Sathyaraj ‘Actor’ or ‘performer’?
Are the terms ‘Actor’ and ‘Performer’ mean the same? Not at all, they have a great deal of difference. An actor is more concerned about his image on the screen and how their fans perceive him, whereas a performer is the one who never cares about his image and gets moulded to whatever role one plays. It may be the role of a protagonist, a character role and sometimes even negative role and a person can be termed as performer who can stand on any of these shoes.
In Bollywood, you see lots of performers including Bollywood Shehanshah Amitabh Bacchan, Hrithik Roshan, Ajay Devagan, Shahid Kapoor and many other leading actors who have played all sort of roles. But in Kollywood, all the actors are most of actors who are just able to do only with hero roles.
One such illustration would be Action King Arjun who refused to play role though it was the most demanding character in the film ‘Sarvam’ directed by Vishnuvardhan. Also Sathyaraj was offered to play negative role in Shankar’s Sivaji and didn’t want to take up the offer. Sathyaraj had a small and silly reason saying, “I didn’t want to take up the negative role since I would lose my image that was formed in Periyar”.
Even Mohan Lal refused to play negative role in Vishnuvardhan’s film and what about Ajith? How can we see this charming actor in negative role? Well, it’s not about playing negative role, but he refused to shave his head for the film Ghajini and this is something ridiculous to hear it from a leading actor.
In these aspects, I have few stars that despites being regarded as choco-chap of filmdom have turned playing down negative role. Probably we are sure you would have known them well, Abbas and Prasanna. These guys had crazy fans and set to be a heartthrob among missies. However, with more boldness they never considered these things and all that they thought of was a strong characterization to perform. Performance of Abbas in Saadhu Miranda and that of Prasanna in Anjathey are the talks of the town now.
On this part, I feel delighted to mention about Vijay. With enormous titles ‘Ilayathalapathy’ and ‘Naalaiya Superstar’ conferred on him, he didn’t feel it as a great deal to perform negative role in his previous flick ‘Azhagiya Tamizh Magan’. Never mind about the success and failure and its director who is supposed to be blamed. Vijay had indeed gained more credits on the negative role more than that of his role of protagonist.

I think the person who wrote this must be a fan of vijay.Thats what he is giving applause to Vijay for his performance ! in ATM. Do you remember a film named Vaali starring Ajith.What kind of role did Ajith play in that movie.or you watch tamil movies or not.Comparing Vijay with Mohan Lal and sathya Raj? How can you compare Mohan Lal with Vijay.Sathyaraj dint say that acting as Villain in Sivaji will affect his Image.wat he said neither there is scope to act in that nor to deliver his style of dialogue.Got it.Tell me one single film that vijay has changed his get ups.Without knowing the fact simply says that Ajith refused to shave his head for Ghajini.That is not reason behind that Ajith took the desicion to not to act in Ghajini.Did you see RED whethear he had a funk type of hair style in that film. Dear critic, hope you dont really understand the meaning of an “actor” and “performer”. And i strongly belive that you are a vijay fan and i dont want to criticise on vijay because i’m a ture ajith’s fan.
First of all you said vijay has done a negative role in ATM and it is a delight full thing for you which means that you never watched the great VALLE, VARALARU, CITIZEN and MORE to come…… Moreover you mentioned AJITH refuced to shave his head in gajini being a vijay supporter you dont know the fact behind that issue , before gajini Ajith was preparing for nan kadavul and he started to graw his hair thats why he was maintaining the same grawn hair style in the movies like thirupathy, varalaru and paramasivan. Unfortunatly Ajith had to leave from nankadavul other wise thala would have done gajini. these unfortunate event that have happened to Thala that make people like you to criticise our thala without knowing the fact. Hello KT members, I dont know why is that all are pouncing on your critics. See we all know that be it actor Vijay or Ajith or anyone who have mentioned here are all good human. Each and every one have doing social services to the needy and the poor. But that isn’t the matter when it comes to industry. Apart from their good heartedness, it is there very essential skill and boldness that is going to decide their passion for films. It is not a personal opinion of each star saying that they arent interested in playing negative role.
Well, one of my friend above as mentioned that Ajith has played negative role in Valee and Varalaru. That is a good point. But he doesnt actually know the story behind Gajini. Ajith witnessed a great flop with a shaved head in Red. This made him regret the offer that even Gajini would turn him down. So that was the actual reason behind Ajith dropping the project.
But it is a mentionable aspect that performers must strongly believe in the script and not in their image.

IF ONE HAD ATTENDED THE AUDIO RELEASE FUNCTION OF KANNAMOOCHI ENADA, YOU COULD HAVE HEARD WHAT SATHYARAJ HAD SAID. HE ADDRESSED THE GATHERING THAT DIRECTOR SHANKAR HAD APPROACHED HIM TO PLAY VILLAIN ROLE (INSTEAD OF SUMAN). BUT HE DIDNT ACCEPT THAT SINCE HE WOULD LOOSE THE IMAGE GAINED THROUGH THE FILM PERIYAR. NO MATTER OF HIMSELF PLAYING DIFFERENT ROLES IN KANNAMOOCHI YENADA, THANGAM, ONBADHU ROOBAI NOTTU OR ANYTHING ELSE. This is totally a waste article. Ajit has done a negative character in valli even billa can be considered. what about the classical dancer character in the film varalaru. He is the real performer. Even you said something about sathyaraj denying the negative role in sivaji.That role has noting to point out. Who said you that Ajit denied the movie because for shaving his head. There was a problem between producer & director,for that reason the movie was dropped.
