Gowtham Menon on his life in Kodambakkam

He’s one of the versatile auteurs of Tamil film industry. Well, for those who didn’t like his previous flicks for abundant violence depicted, you would start loving him after his recent venture of ‘Vaaranam Aayiram’. Yeah! The filmmaker has moved everyone’s hearts and souls with an emotional storyline. Of course, you can say it’s his dedication to his dad as the final dialogues uttered by Surya reveals of it ‘Thank you dad for everything’….

It all started adding lights and colors to a milk packet for a commercial advertisement as he assisted Rajiv Menon. Later, he hop-skipped as assistant director for film Minsara Kanavu. Later, he picked on with his photon factory, an ad agency. Finally, he came up with a boom into Kollywood.

From Minnale till his recent release Vaaranam Aayiram and his forthcoming flick ‘Chennaiyil Oru Mazhaikaalam’, Gowtham Menon has been venturing with different genres.

Here goes a shortlist of best movies that influenced Gowtham Menon right from his childhood. As he was studying in 10th STD, his father advised him to watch the films ‘Aawara’ and ‘Shree 420′. These films seem to have influenced him a lot and likes of Pyaasa and Guru Dutt were also influential. Moreover, it was Mani Rathnam’s Nayakan that evoked his idea of learning technical insight grew more and more.

So, what are his favorite movies?

Dead Poets Society, Godfather and all the films of Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s film especially Anand. His recent watched movie was A Wednesday and Rock On…. He seems to have liked Rock On more with music as its main theme and people coming together for it. Also Gowtham says he has been inspired by such kind of song in Vaaranam Aayiram.

    anyway all that i expected and imagine that should be in a movie
    it all comes true in Gowtham menon Film…he proved his self
    if i get a chance to speak with Gowtham Menon, i want to create a
    good rapport section with him im eagrely waiting for that..
    There are 3 Director most impressed me
    1.Gowtham Menon
    2.Mani Rathnam and
    3.Ram Gopal Varma
    All 3 people movies all Very Sarcastic Violence love and Action
    this the most i like it…

  3. i saw his movie VA today.It is a case of overrating by media.Since gowtham and surya are medias angels they are being hailed to no door.Laughing stuff.Atleast vijay and ajith are forthcoming.They have clearly stated that their movies are meant for commercial purpose only and remember the flocking they got for their kuruvi and aegan.Cant digest.
