Hit and Misses of 2008 - Up to May
Just when it comes to comparison between hits and flops in Tamil Cinema during 2007 and 2008, the graph is sure to be lower for the successful films released during this year. 2007 had great enormous unexpected films making great collections at the box-office.
But this year, none of the films has made it big in Kollywood and that looks somewhat ridiculous. The month of January had the season of Pongal where films like Bheema, Kaalai, Pirivoam Sandhipoam and Vaazthugal were released. Though couple of films had great star casts, the film turned out into a great flop. Of course, Pirivoam Sandhipaom proved to be a family entertainer, but up to some extend it could entertain the audiences. The films goes as a great disappointment for B and C centres.
Other set of movies that released in the following seaon were Anjathey, Saadhu Miranda, Kannum Kannum, Slia Nerangalil and other low budget movies. If one movie that makes us sing appraisals is Mysskin’ directorial Anjathey. Though the film didn’t fetch the name of blockbuster, the film was really impressing for all the groups and Mysskin got his film certified as the best master piece.
Saadhu Miranda directed by Director Siddhique was rocking at theatres for a long time and it was a suspense-thriller blended with comedy. The film had Prasanna, Kavya Madhan and Abbas in lead roles. The following week had the release of Sundar C’s Sandai that was a commercial flick entertaining the audience.
April had more than couple of films like Nepali, Santhosh Subramaniam, Arai En 305il Kadavul, Thozha like… Among these, it was only Santhosh Subramaniam that did a moderate business in the box-office as well received good feedbacks from the audiences. We are sure, those who came up with the feedback that the movie is excellent wouldn’t have watched the original Telugu version. Leave it! The brother combo Raja- Ravi cant get it going if these continues….
Bharath is a man who wants to acquire the position of Kamal Haasan within a short period of time. Is this a joke or a serious ambition? If he opts for something big and tries hard working for it, then no problem, but Bharath takes the scripts in such a way that it goes more similar to that of Kamal Haasan. A small boy playing triple action roles are really not acceptable and out of over curiosity, Bharath had it as a chance and that brought down his envy.
Yaaradi Nee Mohini was a remake presented with brother combination of Selvaraghavan and Dhanush. Though the film had great star cast and crew, the film wasn’t done so specially as in the original version.
Arai En 305il Kadavul had some similarities of Hollywood movie Bruce Almighty. But Director Simbhu Devan added some good messages along with a good humor. According to Kollywood Today, this is the one good movie that entertained the audiences for this summer despites not making good collections.
Well, at the very beginning of May, one of the expected movies Kuruvi was the greatest flop than all. We are sure, nothing needs to be discussed more about it and also you have send in your opinions about it….
So, taking up the movies released during the first five months, none of them have done it big… Cool, don’t worry we have whole lot of big movies releasing during this second season and our next exclusive would be on those movies that is gonna rock in the coming times.

I just saw the movie yesterday,nothing in special . Its almost the same kinda movie vijay been acting for long time,from thirupatchi to pokiri. I think he need to do something different.Cant able to tolerate this kinda non sense and idiotic movies anymore esp the non stop punch dialogues and unimaginable jumpings and fights.Make some realistic kind of moive something like anjathey,santhosh subramanium and so on. Please vijay fans do thing logically whether this movie is good or bad. Dont be blind and say it is a hit. This movie really sucks and is a waste of time and money.

u can say even the flop movies also as hit moves. because it makes that film makers happy. but dont say the hit movies also flop movies. it will make that film makers so sad. from the starting of this year the no. of flop movies are high than hit movies. but the 2 films are good hits this year. they are yaardi nee mohini and santosh subramaniam. the film yaaradi nee mohini is the only film that has crossed 2 crores in chennai till last week.is it not a big collection? there was excellent opening for this movies as that vijay and ajith movies. is this not a big thing? in the same way santosh subramaniam is also a hit and it had good reviews. not as yaaradi nee mohini but it is also a hit.
i cant belive still kuruvi has hoseful shoes in coimbatore yesterday i went to the cine(my parents r big fan of vijay)i hve tried 4 theatre for evening show but almost all the theatre are house ful even though the movie was not nice they are seeing i dnt know why..but thalawill rock in aagan waiting for it

There is one news about kuruvi circulating around. No other sites claimed the movie doing well. All the sites gave negative feedback abt the movie. its worst vijay movie I ever seen. Now I feel atm much better than this. He should stop remaking movies and copy from other languages.
விஜய்யின் அப்பா மணிவண்ணன் ஆந்திரா மாநிலத்தில் ஒரு கல் குவாரியில் கல் உடைக்கும் போது அதில் வைரம் இருப்பதை கண்டுபிடிக்கிறார். உடனடியாக அதுபற்றி அரசுக்கு சொல்ல முயற்சிக்கிறார். அதை வில்லன்களான சுமனும், ஆஷிஷ் வித்யார்த்தியும் சேர்ந்து தடுத்து நிறுத்துவதுடன், மணிவண்ணன் உள்ளிட்டோரை கொத்தடிமையாக்குகிறார்கள். அதோடு வைரத்தை விற்று கோடிக்கணக்கி்ல் பணம் சம்பாதிக்கிறார்கள். இந்த மோசடியை விஜய் கண்டுபிடித்து, தந்தை மணிவண்ணனையும் அவரோடு அடிமைகளாக இருப்பவர்களையும் மீட்கிறார் என்பதே படத்தின் பரபரப்பு(?) கதை.
ஆரம்ப கட்ட கொத்தடிமை காட்சிகள் முடிந்ததும் மின்னல் வேகத்தில் ஒரு கார் வந்து நிற்கிறது. கார் வந்து நிற்கும் ஸ்டைலை பார்த்ததும் விஜய்தான் வரப் போகிறார் என்று ரசிகர்கள் விசிலடித்து வரவேற்க காரில் இருந்து இறங்குகிறார் விவேக். வழக்கம்போல அவர் விஜய்யைப் பற்றி ஒரு பில்ட்அப் கொடுக்க… விஜய் ஒரு தொட்டிக்குள் இருந்து தண்ணீர் பீய்ச்சியடிக்க குருவி போல பறந்து வருகிறார். தந்தை கொத்தடிமையாக இருப்பதை அறியாத விஜய், நண்பர்களுடன் ஜாலியாக பொழுதை போக்குகிறார். ஒரு டப்பா காரில் ரேஸில் பங்கேற்கிறார். எல்லோரும் விஜய்யின் டப்பா காரை பார்த்து கிண்டலடிக்கிறார்கள். அதையெல்லாம் பொறுத்துக் கொண்டு பந்தையத்தில் பங்கேற்கிறார். கார் குருவியின் வேகத்தில் செல்கிறது. ஒவ்வொரு ஸ்பேர் பார்ட்ஸாக கழன்று விழுகிறது. கடைசியில் அறுந்து போன கேபிளை வாயில் கடித்து இழுத்து (ரிஸ்க் எடுக்கிறாராம்!) முதலிடத்தை பிடிக்கிறார். ஜெயித்த பின்னர் வழக்கம்போல ஒரு நச் பஞ்ச் வசனம் பேசுகிறார்.
ஒரு கட்டத்தில் குடும்பத்தின் கஷ்டத்தை உணர்ந்து, அப்பாவின் பணத்தை வாங்க விஜய் மலேசியா செல்கிறார். அங்கு சுமனின் தங்கை த்ரிஷாவை சந்திக்கிறார். விஜய் வில்லன்களை துரத்த, த்ரிஷா விஜய்யை துரத்த… என்று படம் நகர்கிறது. கடைசியில் விஜய் கொத்தடிமைகளை விஜய் எப்படி மீட்கிறார்? என்பதுதான் மீதி கதை.
த்ரிஷா மெழுகு பொம்மையாக ஜொலிக்கிறார். இடுப்புக்கு எண்ணெய் தடவும் காட்சிகளில் கிளுகிளுப்பு. என்ன… விஜய்யை துரத்துவதில் மட்டுமே த்ரிஷாவின் நேரம் விணாகிப் போகிறது. நடிப்புத்திறமையை வெளிப்படுத்த வாய்ப்பு கிடைக்கவில்லை என்றுதான் சொல்ல வேண்டும். மொழு மொழுன்னு பாட்டு ரசிக்க வைக்கிறது.

கொஞ்சம் காரம். நிறை வீரம். கதைக்குத் தகுந்த மாதிரி குடும்ப பாரம். இந்த மூன்றும் கலந்து வந்திருக்கிறது. குருவி. கில்லியில் சொல்லி அடித்த விஜய் - தரணி கூட்டணி இப்போது குருவியை களத்தில் இறக்கியிருக்கிறது.. இந்த முறை விஜய் ஆந்திர வில்லன்களுடன் மோதுகிறார். பொலிவான முகமும் முறுக்கேறிய உடலுமாய் படம் முழுக்க வலம் வரும் விஜய்யிடம் சூப்பர்கிங் உற்சாகம். எடையைக் குறைச்சுட்டா ச்சும்மா சுறுசுறுன்னு குருவி மாதிரி ஆயிரலாம்னு விஜய்க்குத் தெரிஞ்சிருக்கும் போல.
படம் முழுக்க ஸ்லிம் அண்ட் ஸ்லீக்காக வருகிறார். வீட்டில் சாவு விழுந்தால் கூட தயங்காமல் டூயட்டைத் தொடர்கிற வழக்கமான ஹீரோயினாக த்ரிஷா. அடுத்தடுத்து வெட்டும் குத்தும் நடந்து கொண்டிருக்கும் வேளைகளிலும் என்னை லவ் பண்றியா? என்று விஜயை அவர் துரத்தும் காட்சிகளில் நமக்கு எரிச்சல்தான் ஏற்படுகிறது. அடிக்கடி விஜய்யின் கையை பிடித்தக் கொண்டு ஒடி கில்லி எ ஃபெக்ட்டைத் தர மட்டுமே பயன்பட்டிருக்கிறார் த்ரிஷா.
ஹீரோ, ஹீரோயின் இப்படியிருக்க கதை மலேசியாவை நோக்கிப் போகிறது. விஜய்யின் அப்பா மணிவண்ணன் கடன் சுமை தாங்காமல் வீட்டை விட்டு ஓடிப்போக குடும்பத்திற்கென்று மீதியான ஒரே சொத்து வீடு. அதையும் அப்பா கொடுத்த செக் பவுண்ஸ் ஆன கடனுக்காக பிடுங்கப்பட இருக்க கெடு வாங்கிக் கொண்டு செக் கொடுத்த மலேசிய கம்பெனிக்கு அப்பாவின் கடனை வசூல் செய்ய குருவியாக பறக்கிறார்கள் விஜய்யும் நண்பர் விவேக்கும். கதை அங்கே சூடு பிடித்திருக்க வேண்டும். ஆனால் குருவிதானே அதிக உயரம் பறக்க இயலவில்லை. ஏகப்பட்ட பில்டப்புகளுடன் வில்லன்கள் வந்தாலும், படத்தில் விறுவிறுப்பு மிஸ்ஸிங்.
அதிரடியாய் அறிமுகமாகும் சீனியர் வில்லனான சுமன் பாதிப் படத்திலேயே விஜய் அடித்து வீல் சேரில் உட்கார வைத்து விடுகிறார். எம்.எல்.ஏ. வாக வரும் ஆசிஷ் வித்யார்த்தி அடிமைத் தொழிலாளர்களை வைத்திருப்பதும் நினைத்த மாத்திரத்தில் அவர்களை சுட்டுக் கொல்வதும் போலீஸ் கைத்தடிகள் போல நடத்துவதும் சினிமாவில் மட்டுமே சாத்தியமான காட்சிகள். ஏதோ தெலுங்கு படம் மாதிரி போய்ட்டிருக்கே? என்ற நம் சந்தேகத்தை வில்லனகள் அனைவரும் ஆரம்பம் முதல் கடைசி வரை தெலுங்கில் பேசி உறுதிப்படுத்திவிடுகிறார்கள். குவாரியிலிருந்து குழந்தைகளைக் காப்பாற்ற முயலும் இளவரசு ஒரு நல்ல குணச்சித்திர நடிகராக மனதில் இடம் பிடிக்கிறார்.
சரண்யா, மணிவண்ணன், நாசர் (சிறப்பு தோற்றம்) போன்றோருக்கு நடிக்க வாய்ப்பே இல்லை. விஜய்-விவேக் கூட்டணியில் வரும் காமெடி காட்சிகள் கோடை வெயிலில் தர்பூசணி சாப்பிடுவது போல் இருக்கின்றன. மேற்கத்திய இசையும் நாட்டுப்புறப்பாட்டும் கலந்து ஒலிக்கும் ஹேப்பி நியூ இயர் பாடல் இசையமைப்பாளர் வித்யாசாகரை தரணிக்கு சூப்பர் ஜோடி என சொல்ல வைக்கிறது. ஆனால் விஜய்யின் அறிமுகப் பாட்டு… விஜய்க்கான குத்து மிஸ்ஸிங்…
கொத்தடிமைத் தொழிலாளர்களை மையமாகக் கொண்டிருந்தாலும் அவர்களின் பிரச்னையை நச்சென்று காட்டுவது போல ஒரு காட்சி கூட இல்லாதது திரைக்கதையில் மிகப் பெரிய பலவீனம். முதல் பாதியில் காமெடி கலக்கலாகப் போகும் கதை பின்பாதியில் ரத்த மயமாகிறது. கில்லியின் வேகத்தை தொட்டுவிடவேண்டுமென்று தரணி முயன்றிருக்கிறார். ஆனால் அது தொட இயலாத அசுர வேகம்.

Soundarya Rajnikanth the younger daughter of the superstar is ready to roll out her forthcoming venture titled Billa 2. This film will be produced at a whooping cost of Rs.30 crores and this project will take off in 2009 after Ajith fulfills his commitment with Shivaji Productions. This will also be the first venture of Warner Brothers after tying up with Ocher Studios the production firm of Soundarya. Warner Bros. Pictures India has entered into an exclusive multi-picture deal with Soundarya Rajnikanth’s Ocher Studios. The pact covers the production and distribution of Live-Action South Indian language films to be released by Warner Bros.
When Soundarya conceived the idea of making Biila2, Rajnikanth himself had suggested that Ajith would be the right choice to do the lead role. The film would be directed by Vishnuvardhan, who wielded megaphone for Billa remake. Ajith has been paid an astounding amount Rs.10 crores for this venture. So ‘thala’ has now become the highest paid actor in Tamil cinema after Rajnikanth. This film will be a sequel to Billa.

Hero (Vijay) saves the heroine (Trisha) from falling off the building and she falls for him instead. The ‘bad’ man (Suman), heroine’s brother, chases the ‘good’ one; the kind-hearted person escapes a barrage of bullets to save the people. Though hero likes the heroine, he pretends to be disinterested. He is the saviour of the oppressed, while the ‘glam’ girl runs behind him singing songs.
What else can one expect from Vijay’s movie. Worst are his superhuman stunts - that bangs the audience’s head to insanity. Director Dharani must have ran out of imagination; taking a few scenes from Hollywood and a large chunk from Telugu films he gives us Kuruvi.
Speaking only heroism to the audience, the director falters in providing a good story. Though bits of Vivek’s comedy gives some respite, the ‘punch’ dialogues grate the ears. Even music provides no relief to the already tired senses. The Gilli team makes a bad comeback with worst of heroism ever in Tamil cinema. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Karunanidhi’s grandson Udhayanidhi Stalin venture is not impressive. A disappointment for Vijay’s fans.
Definitely kollywood today put KURUVI’s 100 th days Function Stills in their sites.
