Finding satisfaction
Brad Pitt found A Mighty Heart the most difficult project of his career because it was based on real life. Pitt says he was honoured to be asked to direct a movie adaptation of Mariane Pearl memoirs, based on the kidnapping and murder of her journalist husband Daniel in 2002, but it was important to do the film ‘justice.’ He says, “That film is so worth seeing. I think what most people don’t understand, even reviewers, is the mines and traps that were avoided and how easily the film could have gone off the rails.”
Honored
Actor Billy Crudup has been honoured by New York food rescue charity City Harvest. The Almost Famous star has been donating money to the non-profit organisation, which collects food from New York restaurants to give to the homeless, for years. But Crudup admits he was surprised by the recognition at the Metropolitan Pavilion event because he’s been handing over money to City Harvest for so long, he forgot he was doing it. He tells USA Today newspaper, “I moved to New York about 15 years ago and pretty quickly realized that dealing with the hunger issue on a moment-to-moment basis.”
Fire
Halle Berry’s Things We Lost in the Fire premiere in London almost went up in smoke ~ after a real-life blaze broke out just yards away from the cinema. Firefighters acted quickly to put out the fire, which broke out in a nearby restaurant kitchen hours before the Oscar-winning actress and co-star Benicio Del Toro were scheduled to hit the red carpet. Part of Leicester Square, where the premiere was held, was closed off as fire crews worked to bring the blaze under control. The drama served as a poignant reminder of the wild fires currently engulfing Southern California.
