Kamal Haasan and his fans associations in Tamil Nadu - Tamizhaga Kamal Haasan Narpani Iyakkam headed by R. Gunaseelan felicitated Sahitya Academy award winner poet Puviarasu at a grand function held at Smt. Sivakami Pethachi Hall, Chennai on November 19. Puviarasu won the Academy award for his translations of famed Bengali poet Nazrul Islam’s poems in Tamil and published as the book, Puratchikaran. Puviarasu who won several awards including the one from the Tamil Nadu Government, due to personal reasons did not receive the Sahitya Academy award in New Delhi. He expressed “happiness receiving it from Kamal Haasan.” A close friend of the actor, Puviarasu worked on the script with Kamal for the put-on-hold film, Marudanayagam.
The function was presided over by Mr. Kamalnadhan, Director All India Radio, Coimbatore. Mrs. Thilakavathy I.P.S. and Prof. Gnanasambandhan from Madurai offered their felicitations. Poet Abul Rehman lauded Kamal Haasan for organising the function and asked him to bring his own poems in a book form. Kamal Haasan spoke about his long-standing association with Puviarasu and said that he plans to start a literary forum to honor poets and littérateurs who made rich contributions to Tamil literature.
