Naam Iruvar at IFFI

The Indian programming at International Film Festival of India – 2007 (IFFI-2007), would be under eight different segments. Besides the section Indian Panorama wherein 21 feature and 15 non-feature films will be screened, the Indian programming would have retrospective of legendary director Tapan Sinha’s four films. ‘Kabuliwala’, ‘Sagina Mahato’, ‘Adalat O Ekti Meye’ and ‘Aadmi Aur Aurat’ will be screened in this section.

Another retrospective ‘Eternal Romantic’ will be on the legendary director Vijay Anand. Four of his masterpieces - Nau Do Gyarah, Tere Ghar Ke Samne, Guide and Jewel Thief- will be showcased. Under the Homage Section, one film each on legendary actress of Hindi and Marathi cinema Vanamala Devi (film - Shyamchi Aai), renowned music director, O. P. Nayyar (film – Aar Paar) and renowned cinematographer K. K. Mahajan (film – Saara Akash) will be screened. As a tribute to living legend Aribam Syam Sharma, his film Ishanou would be screened. Navya Movement in Kannada language inspired a generation of film makers and marked a turning point in Kannada cinema. A section ‘Navya Movement and Kannada Cinema’ would showcase three landmark Kannada films. These are, Samskara (1970) directed by Pattabhi Rama Reddy, Chomana Dudi (1975) directed by Late B V Karanth, and Ghatashradha (1977) directed by Girish Kasravalli. The Section ‘India @ 60′, celebrating India’s independence, would showcase three feature films and four documentaries based on the spirit of freedom and patriotism. Curated by Government of Goa, the section presents three prominent features from three different languages.

The films are: ‘Nam Iruvar’ (Tamil), a landmark film by A V Meiyappan, ‘Biyallis’ (Bengali), a landmark film by Hemen Gupta and the all time favourite by Manoj Kumar, ‘Shaheed’ (Hindi). The four documentaries of the Films Division to be screened are, ‘Call for swaraj and swadeshi’ by Prem Vaidya, ‘India wins freedom’ by N S Thapa, ‘Then came Gandhi’ by N S Thapa and ‘Gandhi - An Emerging Reality’ by D Gautaman.
