Priyamani to Light the Lamp at IFFI

Bollywood heartthrob Shahrukh Khan along with celebrated Romanian director Cristian Mungiu and actress Anamaria Marinca will lend the star touch to the inaugural ceremony of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) beginning at the picturesque coastal city of Goa from November 23. Mungiu has directed ‘4 months, 3 weeks, 2 days’, which is the opening film of IFFI, and is the winner of Palm D’Or at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. Anmaria is the leading actress in the film. The rising star of Malyalam, Tamil and Kannada cinema Priyamani will assist in lighting the inaugural lamp. Announcing this at a press conference here today, Director of the Film Festival Neelam Kapoor said, ‘the ceremony will be simple elegant and in keeping with international standards.” It will be addressed by Minister of Information and Broadcasting Priyaranjan Dasmunsi and Goa Chief Minister Digamber Kamat.

This time 14 films, including two Indian, from 13 countries will be competing for the prestigious Golden Peacock Award, which carries a medal and Rs 10 lakh. The competition section has films from Asian, African and Latin American countries. These are: ‘On the Wings of Dreams’ by Golam Rabbany Biplab (Bangladesh), ‘Me Myself’ by Pongpat Wachirabunjong ( Thailand), ‘The Debt’ by Assaf Bernstein (Israel), ‘The Satanic Angels’ by Ahmed Boulane (Morocco), ‘Khuda Ke liye’ by Shoaid Mansoor (Pakistan), ‘A Ton of Luck’ by Rodrigo Triana (Columbia), ‘The Postmodern Life of my Aunt’ by Ann Hui ( China), ‘The Wall’ by Lin Chin Ju (Taiwan), ‘Olga, Victoria Olga Time Without Time’ by Mercedes Farriols (Argentina), ‘Mas Que A Nada En El Mundo’ by Andrs Leon Becker (Mexico), ‘Cruel Embrace’ by Anuradha jaisinghe ( Sri Lanka), ‘Svani’ by Soso and Badri Jachvliani (Georgia) and ‘Ek Nadir Galpo’ by Samir Chanda and ‘Rathrimazha’ by Lenin Rajendran (both from India). Ms Kanpoor said this year the jury will be headed by eminent award winning filmmaker from Hungary Marta Mazaras.
