Rousing reception for A R Rahman

A grand heartwarming reception was given to AR Rahman on his arrival at the International Airport in Chennai. A R Rahman received the covetous Golden Globe Award for the original sound track in the film Slum Dog Millionaire on 11th at Beverly Hills in America. A R Rahman was the first Indian to receive the award which is supposed to be equivalent to Oscar. A R Rahman who had gone to America to receive the award had returned to Chennai via Germany yesterday morning at 1.30 A M. More than 100 artists of Chennai Sangamam had gathered to give a rousing welcome to the legendary music composer. They started performing various folk programmes right from midnight.

Chennai Sangamam coordinator Fr Jagath Gasper welcomed A R Rahman with a garland. The award winner A R Rahman said, “Though the film Slum Dog Millionaire is not a musical film, director Daniel Boyle had given much importance for music in this film. The reason for this award goes to the director because he was the one who extracted the work from me. I could not sleep on the eve of the award function day but the next day when my name was announced I sighed with a great relief.”
