For those who acclaimed Selvaraghavan as the most ace screenplay writer and filmmaker, you’ll have to confess your sins…. ‘Aayirathil Oruvan’ is a very big disappointment. Sorry to say! Producer Ravendran maybe in a troublesome situation now…. We kindly thank those comments which supported in favor of us. Yes, we have been correct with our presumptions and Selva hasn’t done anything special other than ‘adult factors, semi-nude shots and bad words….’
‘Aayirathil Oruvan’ is a fiction that brings about conflict between the present generations of Chola and Pandian dynasty.
The film opens with a renowned archeologist (Prathap Pothan) found in an isolated land bounded with a nightmarish experience. On the very next day, the newspapers carry news that he’s missing. His only beloved daughter Lavanya (Andrea) an archeologist herself is desolated with the loss. Now, the forest officer Anitha (Reema Sen) with the aid of few ministers and higher police officials embark a journey to unleash the mystery behind archeologist.
They get an aid from local coolies lead by Muthu (Karthi). The trio Muthu-Anitha-Lavanya is into the deep forests along with police official and defense force.
Things are fine and adventurous till they approach the mysterious land where they’re taken into a different world of Chola Kingdom.
Yeah! The descendents of Chola Dynasty still exist ruled by the present king (Parthiban)…
With the running duration of 200mins, we are sure you will regret for expecting a lot from this film. How come the producer was so overconfident after reading the script? Selvaraghavan can be regarded as an arrogant and cocksure filmmaker, who cannot even think about a good concept.
Right throughout the first half, you’ll see dozens of filthy dialogues, guy and gals involved in physical touches. But we can’t understand how come audiences clap and whistle for certain sequences where Karthi pulls down his pants to get injected by Andrea.
Why do these three characters become insane as they enter the land of Chola Dynasty?
You’ll be left with so many questions as you walk out of theatres. Karthi does a best job by keeping us engrossed with his performance right throughout the show. Reema Sen being proclaimed as a descendent of Pandian dynasty is absurd. Selva should’ve tried roping in some Tamil speaking actresses. Andrea hasn’t got any role to perform while Azhagam Perumal is mediocre. Parthiban does nothing exceptionally other than dancing for couple of theme music. Especially watch his dance with Karthi before the penultimate sequences. Selvaraghavan seems to have been more confused in adding and deleting the canned shot during second half.
Songs aren’t really captivating. Except ‘Un Mela Aasadhan’, nothing seems to be good….. Cinematography gets diminished overdosed computer generated graphics. Each and everything in the frame is dominated by DI works. Even most of them tend to be amateurish with high toned grading.
Finally, ‘Aayirathil Oruvan’ has no probabilities of surviving at box office more than 4 days. The theatres and multiplexes are lucky to certain extent as they have sold out tickets in advance while other single screens will have to accept the shocking truth – The film is an utter flop.
Bottom - Line: 3 years wait goes in Vain
Verdict: Damp Squib

Thulluvadho elamai : Not too good a movie but was followed by half a dozen movies with the same plot.
Kadhal Kondaen : Path breaking psycho movie.Again was followed by string of movies with the same plot.
Rainbow Colony : Excellent love stroy where Selvaraghavan established himself as a fabulous director.(Last 40 mins of this movie is much more than classic)
Pudhupaettai : Mind blowing gangster movie.
This again was followed by lots of movies with the same plot.
Aayirathil Oruvan :
Genre:Adventure/fantasy/history.
I assure this won’t be followed by movies with the same genre as its next to impossible for other directors to even think of this.
Even stalwarts in Indian film-making have not tried this genre.
Bold effort from Selvaraghavan.
You continue to make your flicks the way you do and we are there to support you.
“if an army can reach the place immeditaely….. why do they want to cross the 7 hurdles…. nthing s clear n second half…”
Please think twice before asking this question.
Your question is logically incorrect.
Ajith and Vijay fans :
Till we Tamil people remain or become fans of Vijay/Ajith/Rajnikanth Tamil cinema is never going to improve.
Aayirathil Oruvan is a definite milestone and similiar attempts can be expected only after 10 years.

This happens to be a good movie, but hasn’t captured the hearts of many due to it’s slow pace. But it is a good one
I find that scene in which Reema and Andrea throw profanities at each other completely redundant (and the beeping was what made it so ridiculous). And to think this is how the trailer begins (I lost my faith in the movie just watching that!)! What was the director thinking (assuming he DOES think)?
People, I know we are all sick of masala, vijay (his is masala personified), and far-fetched movies that the Tamil industry so generously churns out. But that being said, please don’t be misled that ALL movies that have a novel concept have to be good and all of us should be waxing lyrical about it.
We are NOT obliged to like it and therefore don’t impose your preferences on us. And involving our fathers (Raj, I am talking about you, dumbo) and turning vulgar is not going to make us like it either. Geez. It’s just a movie for God’s sake.

My version of the story, which I would have liked being portrayed with the same effort taken for this movie, first half will remain the same excepting the swear words and double meanings. Also, the hero will be an educated guy who is an expert in archeology just as one of the heroines. They don’t get mad. In the second half, instead they read the scriptures laid on stone (ancient Tamil) and come across a map, which gives the route to an underground treasure chamber below the tombstones (a lot of them are there), then with the help of the map, they find the tombstone of the ancient king’s son and his wife, they reach the underground chamber after facing a lot of demons and magic (overcome by the trio with the help of a person good at it being hired from the beginning itself). Ultimately, after a great struggle, they reach the underground chamber, where there is a wealth of architectural delights with golden statues, coins, jewelry, etc., and they find the lost statue, which has some magical properties and they just jump in delight, but suddenly as they reach the statue, a holocaust like thing comes and a suddenly the whole structure begins to crumble, and they could just grab the statue before they come out, and they ultimately reach the outside of the tombstone and make a great escape from there, an alteration would be the hero and heroine fall in love and decide to get married, and continue the noble work of archeology and take it to great heights!!!! Would love to have a sequel for this also!!!!
Dei virundhali ku porandha thevidiya pasangala , Aayirathil Oruvan is the best tamil movie i have ever watched . I think those ppl who say that dis movie s a flop or worse are born to n number of fathers . Their mother would have fucked even her own father to give them birth ….
“You people are ready to hit the vulgar songs like which insulting the mother father relations like, ‘APPAN PANNA THAPPULA AHTHA PETHA VETTHALA’ then, UNGA AMMA ENGA AMMA SETHUVAIPAALA, ADA SUMMA ADA SUMMA PETHU UTAALA”
You are right about this, but it is just a song, and the visuals do not match the words, so nobody is going to relate to it instantly, so not that is not but it is less harmful.
“but, oru payan 2 ponnanga kuda journey single maatina enna agumnu unmaiya kaatuna ungaluku blue filmada…”
Nobody is objecting to the scene in which the three hug closely to avoid catching cold, compared to what follows, it is nothing - don’t turn the plate!!!
“This movie shows the beautifullness of our old Tamil.”
Yes, beautiful swear words in ancient tamil, may be you can make note of it and add to your already existing swear vocabulary, it will make a nice antique collection.
“TAMIL APPANUKU PORANDHA EVANUKUM INDHA PADAM PURIYUM’ and not for everyone who born by n number of fathers”
THIS FILM IS ONLY FOR everyone who born by n number of fathers for the film is about such people, so that they will understand it fully thoroughly and enjoy it to the core. The so-called TAMIL APPANUKU PORANDHA EVANUM need not watch this film for it is degrading their own sweet Tamil culture and heritage.
