Picking up the themes centering on young teens and their crucial times during adolescence age is pretty form of clichés. Adding to the lists of such movies is Maanavan Ninaithal with S.P. Gnanamozhi handling story, screenplay, dialogues and direction. Somehow, the film differs with its narration at certain point and the most highlighting attribute is that with many films based on the same themes, Gnanamozhi precisely focuses just on the theme without scattering towards unwanted elements.
The film centers on a student’s life and the encounters of problems that he faces while he enters into the college life.
Sakthi (Rithik) scores high marks in 12th standard Government Examinations and attains state level rank. But unable to meet his everyday’s needs, Shakti has to give up all his likeliness of taking up higher studies. Dissimilar to other youngsters of his age group, Sakthi accepts the destiny that life sets for him. Also he goes to the extent of coming on aid to his mother who runs a roadside snack bar.
Somehow, a journalist Raj (K.Bhagyaraj) from a famous newspaper interviews Sakthi about his story of excelling in 12th Standard examinations. More impressed by his story of success and getting to know about his pathetic situation, Raj assures that he will help him in continuing his higher dreams. Soon after publishing this story in his paper, many benefactors come forward with donations for his higher studies and Sakthi is admitted in a topmost college in the city.
However, Sakthi’s life turns topsy-turvy when he accidentally gets into pits of bad habits. He becomes so addicted without his consciousness he starts committing big blunders. At this point of time, he falls in love with to his college-mate Nivedha (Adhira) and proposes to her. But, she has some other plans of getting married with some other guy.
More affected by this failure, Sakthi has no options other than getting onto a serious decision. What would be his reaction to the situation? Is he going to commit suicide or has some other plans? If so, is there anyone else to save him? Is it journalist Raj or does someone appear in cameo role to save him forms crux of the story…
As mentioned, the theme sounds so common that most of the underrated filmmakers take on adding annoying themes of vulgarity and many more unsuitable for youth. Hats off to Gnanamozhi for he does a adequate take making the film look decent. Also loads of credits for him for using Sakthi to the best level… Adhira does a decent job doing justice to her role. Though she appears at smaller portion, she looks apt with the act she delivers.
Director-Actor K.Bhagyaraj adds more to the film’s strength and in all the scenes he appears, there is something interesting for audiences. Kottachi donning the role Sakthi’s friend comes up with an appreciable role, but at many points delivering lengthy dialogues annoys audiences.
Music Director Tashi does a promising musical score and especially the melodious tune ‘Nilave Thanga Nilave’ is of good work. On the equal par, both editor M.R.Srinivasan and cinematographer Selvakumar perform a commendable job….
As a whole, the film looks good and appreciable at some points and it would have been nice if director had focused more on gripping screenplay…
Bottom - Line: Moderate effort but unpromising
Verdict: Ok….
