Review - Naan Avan Illai

Producer : Zabak
Director : Selvaa
Music : Vijay Antony
A remake of old Gemini Ganesan’s film Naan Avanilai, carrying the banner of Anti-hero Jeevan made his effort in Naan Avanilai. There is no much difference between Thirutu Paiyala and Naan Avanilai. In his previous film Jeevan try to cheat Malavika, but in Naan Avanilai, he manages to fool five girls in the name of Love. Director Selva left with one job, managing the heroines apart from that there is nothing special in this film.
Anamalai(Jeeva) is arrested by police based on complaint given by Monika(Namtha), Ammu Kutty(Jyothirmayi), Radha(Keerthi Chawla), and Priya (Malavika) who allegedly cheated by Anamalai. In the court Anamalai defend himself claiming Naan Avanilai( I am not him), and Anamalai escapes from the eyes of law.
Coming back, the movie starts from how Anaamali able to cheat the five girls in name of marriage. Priya is been cheated by Anamalai claiming a business man from London, in next Jeevan cheats Ammu Kutty saying he belong to Kerala Chief Minister’s Cousin’s Son, and in the case of Radha, Anamalai able to catch her in simple move as a Swamiji, last in this line is Monika an entrepreneur, divorced women fell in love with Anamalai.
Anjali(Sneha), daughter of judge (Lakshmi) is also been cheated by Jeevan. But Police officer (Raj Kapoor) keep on tracking history of Anamalai and came to know, his past life and his intention in cheating the girls. Except Anjal, Anamalai able to convince all other four girls to share the night with him, and Anamalai able to escape with Jewels, Money from the scene and get ready for next target.
But director lacks his arm in screenplay, and sense of vulgarity was felt through out the film, starting from Namitha to Malavika, song sequence was not comfortably placed by director selvaa.
Music scored by Vijay Antony seems Ok, but it was not up to the mark. Besides U.K Senthil’s camera & Pattukottai Prabhakaran’s dialogue was placed well. At the end it was totally a new attempt from the wrong direction, further Jeevan in negative role in cheating and betrayal of girls won’t be fruitful in future. So Jeevan has to change his character otherwise cine world will look for another hero.
But Naan Avanilai carrys the credit that this the first remake of Old Tamil film in Kollywood.
Verdict: Thiruttu Payalae second Part
