Review - Onbathu Roobai Nottu

Cast : Sathyaraj, Archana, Nasser, Rohini and others
Producer : Indian Cinema Factory
Director : Thankar Bacchan
Music: Bharadwaj

Amidst of commercial flicks topping the chart of box-office, Thankar Bacchan pledges with a parallel theme moving Tamil cinema a step ahead in the world of International cinema. Yeah! There is another man who has a good reason to act despites his age factor and that’s Sathyaraj. Of course, not often you see him tripping his light toes with young missies and what else he does? Yup! Periyar gushed forth and happened to bring storm of change in his opting of characterizations. Moreover, again comes he making taste us something different….

Inspired by his own novel with the same title ‘Onbathu Roobai Nottu’, Thankar should have felt gripped with two stuffs: Characterizations and actors breathing their lives on them. We, the members of Kollywoodtoday.com would like to term this auteur as ‘ A man of dramatic versatility’. Sounds cool! Yes it must be…..

Fine! Let’s take on for a short glimpse on flick’s storyline….

A realistic tale that kindles our emotions and this is what we like to say up with one line review. The film is centered of Madhava Padayachi, also called as Madhavar or Madhava Ayya. He leads a contented life bringing up his family and extending his help to his close friend Khaja Bhai and his wife Kameela (Nasser and Rohini). With accordance of time, his family turns out to be a big joint family.

Things turn worse as when Madhava Ayya’s wife Vellayi (Archana) comes to know about their younger son’s love affair with a girl belonging to Dhobi community. Meanwhile, Madhava’s younger brother spins his evil spell insisting the children to break revolt against their parents.

In course of time, this old couple is abandoned by their children and do they realize what they have done to their parents or not forms crux of the story….

Two things that made me to join my hands for was performance of Sathyaraj and portrayal of binding emotions of friendship… The on-screen friendly chemistry between Sathyaraj and Nasser is best pick of the show.

Playing something unique and best remains as Thankar Bacchan’s style (what we generally say ‘The Director’s Cut’. All that we plead this director, is to continue making films like this, for they would take Tamil cinema a step ahead on the ladder peaking to the chart-topping position of World Cinema.

One aspect that accompanies enhancing the feel of watching the film is stupendous musical score by Bharadwaj. Be it is background scoring or songs, he leaps with laurels.

Though not weaved for commercial success, Thankar Bacchan has something to say about for the masses….

Verdict: A MOVIE FOR ELITE GROUPS AND NOT FRONT BENCHERS….
