Review - Rameswaram
Cast : Jeeva, Bhavana, Director Lal, Manivannan and many others
Producer : S.N. Raja
Cinematography: Vetri and R.B. Gurudev
Director : Selvam
Music: Neeru
Selvam on his very first attempt bobbles up blending romance and real issues together and hasn’t done a praiseworthy job. Toggling unnecessarily, between these themes of romantic tale portrayed with a commercial approach, merely adding up with backdrops of refugees makes no sense. Moreover it’s clearly evident he has failed while compromising for the script and it would have been better, if Selvam had dealt intensively with problems faced by refugees, that haven’t been portrayed in any other prior flicks.
Story of Rameshwaram goes this way…..
Vasanthi (Bhavana), daughter a rich landlord (Played by Director Lal) is a jovial missy in Rameshwaram. Jeevan (Jeeva) is one among many despondent refugees from Srilanka gets shored at the camps of Rameshwaram. Thwarted Jeevan has nothing to think about other than departure to his hometown, until Vasanthi crosses through his life. Vasanthi falls for Jeevan for his kind-heartedness (normal stupid part of most of Tamil flicks), But Jeevan has no concern for her. Sooner or later, his heart melts down getting through her affection and deep love for him. Affair blooms from his part and impedimenta factor comes through Venkat (Bose) cousin-boy of Vasanthi. He has an urge towards marrying Vasanthi, right from his childhood days and that remains the dream of her entire family members, including her father.
Now Jeevan among thronged refugees departing to Sri Lanka is pierced with perplexities to return back or take Vasanthi along with him. Well, as usual you have to go through annoying stuffs of villain taking protagonist into tasks and in turn our hero retaliating his talents for attacking him.
Vasanthi now has options studded for Jeevan: to take her along with him or herself committing suicide. Well, the most predictable part of the film is dragging climax that you have to watch…
Rameshwaram is nothing but full-loaded with ludicrous aspects that hasn’t got anything special to convey, but an irksome romantic tale… Certain factors that Selvam wanted seriously shaped up have been perceived mirthfully by masses, say, making characters articulated with Srilankan style of Tamil. Speaking about Jeeva, it’s just the same enchanting performance with bold approach and moreover, whole lots of improvements are visible with his facial gestures. Bhavana with her bewitching looks do make some serious attempts to emote and succeeds. All that we want to convey her is that ‘Keep performing the same and you are there on the chart-topping recipient of awards’.
As a whole of characterizations, veracious performance by all the characterization including Lal, Bose Venkat, Sampath and others carry film’s strength, but up to some extent.
Well, it’s more pleasing with grandeur show by technical crew and they have done a praiseworthy job. Striking the right chord is Niru scorning scrumptious melodies and background works. (Ready for an interesting snippet?? Sri Lanka happens to be the homeland of Niru and that has helped in scoring apt music for the film). Moreover, for the technical part, cinematographer Vetri precisely has canned the shots that you can delight viewing at. The scenes framed along the coastal regions are a cool treat and convincing factor in Rameshwaram.
As a whole, Rameshwaram like much of his previous flicks keeps adding feathers to Jeeva’s cap. But no credits added for Director Selvam and he could have commenced his directorial venture with an improvised scenario of the same flick. We would like to congratulate Director Selvam for his moderate effort, but that would lay us on the same side of compromising things like him. All that we pledge the auteur is that with Tamil Cinema sensed with good standards throughout the globe please make some good movies with exceptional theme, if you’re kind of filmmakers who intend elevating standards of Tamil cinema. If do thou interested in making commercial flicks, please go ahead with it and you could make a dhamaka at box-office. But please, don’t ever make us smarted with such scripts of stupefied themes and pretend yourself to be smart…
Verdict: Jeeva scores full and miserable failure for Selvam….
