Before analyzing this movie Vegham, I would like to make a kind request to all filmmakers of Kodambakkam who have an idea to remake Hollywood films. Please don’t ever go for the movies that wont suit your capability and if you are sure, then go for that. Why I am trying to say is that, we are all very much familiar to the Hollywood movie Cellular that is a speedy movie that will move audience biting their nails. But remaking this movie in Tamil movie as Vegham, viewers who have seen the original version would hate watching upcoming Tamil movies that are a remake of Hollywood movies.
Despites Cellular starts with a thrilling script, S.Vee. Sekhar has modified it by adding some comedy elements, but fails to carry the movie with a fixed storyline.
The film opens with Ashwin (Ashwin) in Pondicherry making arrangements for his sister’s marriage and goes to the city’s railway station to receive bridegroom and his family. Gradually it is the same old technique of bridegroom having a sister. Anjali (Anjali) being bridegroom’s sister enter into problematic encounters with Ashwin and later fall in love with each other. After the marriage, the married couples move to Malaysia for that is their hometown and Ashwin and Anjali fail to propose their love for each other.
Ashwin moves to Malaysia for an event management and over there he happens to get a strange phone call from a lady (Kushboo) that she has been kidnapped by a group of unknown baddies. It is then revealed that why she has been kidnapped and even their family members are in dangerous situation.
The phone call shouldn’t be disconnected, with batteries dropping down and signal weakened, he has to find out where the woman is and save her family. He gets the help of a local police officer (Prabhu) in Malaysia and that happens in parallel tracks.
However the storyline seems to be interesting, director Udhyashankar has failed to carry the film with a control and doesn’t succeed in getting on with powerful characterizations. S.Vee. Sekhar’s comedy blended dialogues and screenplay is the only convincing thing in the movie.
Ashwin looks talented and he can still improve more on his part by choosing the stuffs that would suit him. Also he can mark a note on his appearance and reduce his weight if he opts to perform action-packed roles. Archana is just a glam doll in this movie and has nothing to do more in that script and director could have re-designed the script by giving importance to her role.
Sreeman after donning good character roles in films like Pokiri and Nam Naadu doesn’t get suited when he looked on the screen performing a negative role. Well Prabhu has nothing to do for the film for there is no importance given to him and it is Kushboo who steals the show with her performance and her original voice for dubbing. Musical score by Rajesh Vaidhya goes annoyed for the listeners and has done a good job for a background score. In spite of film falling under the genre of thriller, camera angles and editing should have been given more importance and Director has failed to concentrate on both these aspects in this film.
Valuating the film as a whole, there is nothing great to appreciate in this film other than the humorous dialogues penned by S.Vee. Sekhar. On the whole Vegam is Racing with slow pace.
Verdict: Moves with good speed, but not a winner.
